True Hollywood Story, where she revealed that her time on Three’s Company was the “three worst years” of her life, that she constantly felt “uncomfortable” on the set, and that she even asked to be released from her contract, a request which was denied. While Terri Alden will always be Barnes’ most prominent role, she has certainly had her fair share of success, with consistent supporting roles in both television and film.
Nicole Eggert – Then
Nicole Eggert landed her first movie role when she was just eight years old in Rich and Famous. That same year, Eggert performed the voice of Margaret in the first animated version of the Dennis the Menace trilogy, titled Dennis the Menace in Mayday for Mother. In 2009, Baxter publicly came out as lesbian and in 2013, married Nancy Locke.
Tina Yothers – Then
At just eight years of age, Tina Yothers began her acting career appearing in an episode of The Wonderful World of Disney. It was the following year though, in 1982, when she would catapult into superstardom with her role in the hit sitcom Family Ties. She starred alongside the likes of Michael J. Fox and Justine Bateman as the younger sister Jennifer Keaton. A gentle individual, Tina shares her parents’ liberal views and has a complicated relationship with her siblings.
Tina Yothers – Now
Although she certainly made a big impression with her role as Jennifer, Tina Yothers ultimately decided to take a break from the world of acting in order to focus on a potential music career. She started a band with her brother called Jaded and in 2002, she tied the knot and has since had two kids. In more recent times, Yothers has made appearances on a number of reality shows such as Celebrity Wife Swap, Celebrity Fit Club, and What Not to Wear.
Candace Cameron – Then
While John Stamos and Bob Saget certainly had big parts to play in Full House‘s success, so did the younger star of the show, Candace Cameron. DJ Tanner is the eldest child of the family and is consequentially the most sensible sibling, giving advice to the younger members of the family. While some of the characters came and go, Cameron was a member of the main cast throughout the show’s entire run and was certainly a fan favorite all the way up until 1995, when the show ended.
Candace Cameron – Now
Despite Full House ending during the early ’90s, Candace Cameron continued to find work over the next few decades. She became a prominent figure in the Hallmark Channel, starring as the titular character in shows based on the Aurora Teagarden novel series. In 2014, Cameron competed on season 18 of Dancing with the Stars, in which she went nearly all the way, finishing in third place. A few years later, she was the co-host of the talk show The View and has since reprised her role as DJ Tanner in Fuller House.
Judith Light – Then
There is no denying that Judith Light brought feistiness to Who’s the Boss? with the iconic role of Angela. A driven, independent woman, Angela is attracted to housekeeper Tony and vice versa, which becomes a recurring storyline throughout the show’s run. Although they eventually profess their love for each other, producers decided against having the lovebirds tie the knot on the show in order to ensure that viewers didn’t lose interest. Light had previously appeared on shows such as One Life to Live and St. Elsewhere.
Judith Light – Now
Long after Who’s the Boss? came to an end, Judith Light continued to stay relevant in the world of TV, appearing on shows such as Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. She also had a recurring role in the hit series Ugly Betty, and which earned her a nomination for a Primetime Emmy Award in 2007. From a very early age, Lisa Whelchel became a recognizable face on TV, first appearing on The New Mickey Mouse Club as a Mouseketeer. By the age of 15, she had already appeared in a remarkable 130 episodes of the Disney show. Most people though will recognize Whelchel for her role as Blair Warner in The Facts of Life, playing the character for nine straight seasons. Blair is a little rebel, who was both vain and shallow but also funny and kind, in equal measures. Whelchel also appeared as Blair in a couple of episodes of Diff’rent Strokes.
Lisa Whelchel – Now
As soon as the ’80s were over, Whelchel’s acting career also took a long-running hiatus. This seemed to coincide with her marriage to Steven Cauble, who she had three kids with but ultimately separated from in 2012. Interestingly enough, it was this very same year that Whelchel competed on the hit competitive reality series Survivor: Philippines, where she finished in second place. She also received $100,000 after being voted the fan favorite. These days, Whelchel does a lot of work as a motivational speaker.
Sara Gilbert – Then
Sara Gilbert first burst onto the TV scene through her role as Darlene in the hit series Roseanne. She plays the daughter of Dan and the titular character and developed a reputation for being an unconventional, tomboyish, young female sitcom character. Apparently, producers nearly didn’t cast Gilbert because they thought she wasn’t cute enough. There is no denying that it was the right call though as Gilbert brought a level of gravitas to the role that most child actors probably couldn’t.
Sara Gilbert – Now
Throughout the years, Sara Gilbert has stayed busy in the world of TV, appearing on shows such as 24, ER, and Twins, to name a few. Of course, the talented actress has won a completely new audience through her work as Leslie Winkle in the hit sitcom The Big Bang Theory, reuniting with her Roseanne co-star Johnny Galecki. She also reprised her role as Darlene for the spinoff series of Roseanne, The Conners, which has since received rave reviews.
Rhea Perlman – Then
There is no denying that Rhea Perlman is best known for her memorable role as Carla Tortelli in the iconic ’80s sitcom Cheers. Carla seems to be mean and looks down upon the others around her. But through the 271 episodes that she was a part of, Carla evolves and becomes one of the most beloved characters on the show. Along with the likes of Norm Peterson and Sam Malone, Carla is one of just three characters who was in every single episode.
Rhea Perlman – Now
While her role as Carla is certainly her claim to fame, this hasn’t stopped Rhea Perlman from working elsewhere in the entertainment industry. Since the turn of the century, she has appeared in movies such as Beethoven’s Big Break and The Christmas Choir, to name a few. She also appeared in the West End production Boeing Boeing. Over the years, Perlman has had a complicated relationship with Danny DeVito. Although they are separated, they are still technically married.
Telma Hopkins – Then
There were plenty of unforgettable characters in Family Matters and Rachel Baines Crawford was certainly one of them. The younger sister of Harriette, Rachel is a real go-getter, despite having plenty of pain after the loss of her husband. She is an entrepreneur and is virtually a mainstay during the show’s first four seasons. Hopkins left the show for a year because she was working on the failed sitcom Getting By, but she did come back for future seasons.
Telma Hopkins – Now
Over the years, Telma Hopkins has acted in a number of noteworthy projects, including the comedy The Love Guru. During the ’00s, she starred in the sitcom Half & Half, which ran for a handful of seasons and has appeared in other sitcoms such as Partners and Toast. Outside of acting, Hopkins has worked in a variety of charitable causes such as Act on Arthritis and the PTA. In her free time, she always works as a mentor for kids.
Julie Piekarski – Then
Another unforgettable character from The Facts of Life has to be Sue Ann Weaver, who was portrayed by Julie Piekarski. Although it is believed that she has a lower IQ than the other students, Sue Ann still excels at school and one of her key goals in life is to chase the boys. Similar to Lisa Whelchel, Piekarski also spent the early stages of her acting career working on The New Mickey Mouse Club, starring in 130 episodes.
Julie Piekarski – Now
It seems like Julie Piekarski’s acting career all but dried up after her time on The Facts of Life came to an end. In the last 30+ years, it seems like her only serious acting credit came in the 2016 low budget movie The Importance of Doubting Tom. Ultimately, Piekarski traded in her acting career to be an entertainment reporter for KPLR-TV in St. Louis, although this only lasted briefly. She was married to dentist John Probst for over 30 years until 2017.
Sally Struthers – Then
There is no denying that Archie Bunker was the guy that everyone remembers from All in the Family. That isn’t to say though that he was the only great character from that show. Another character that stayed with fans long after the show ended was Gloria Stivic, the daughter of the aforementioned family man and wife Edith. She would often get caught up in arguments between her father and ex-husband. Gloria always seemed to be the voice of reason on that show.
Sally Struthers – Now
As the years have passed, Sally Struthers has continued to stay relatively relevant in the world of acting, mainly working in theater. In 2014, she toured in the 50th-anniversary production of Hello, Dolly!, playing the title character. She has worked on a number of charitable causes, including ChildFund. She has also been a spokesperson for International Correspondence Schools. Struthers has also had brief roles on shows such as Grey’s Anatomy and South Park, to name a few.
Bebe Neuwirth – Then
It’s funny that Lilith Sternin appears on this list, especially since the character spent most of her time off-screen during the ’90s in the spinoff to Cheers – Frasier. However, Bebe Neuwirth locked down a respectable 80 episodes in the mother show, playing the uptight psychiatrist who begins a relationship with Kelsey Grammer’s character and even ends up having a son with him. However, their relationship ends after she cheats on him with another man. She ends up sporadically appearing throughout Frasier‘s run.
Bebe Neuwirth – Now
Since Cheers came to an end over 25 years ago, Bebe Neuwirth has been maintaining a steady career in the world of acting, appearing in successful shows such as HBO’s Bored to Death, as well as Blue Bloods and Will & Grace. Since 2009, Neuwirth has been married to Chris Calkins and in more recent times, she has dedicated her time to many charitable organizations such as The Actors Fund and Seeds of Peace. She does pottery in her spare time.
Suzanne Somers – Then
Having made a name for herself with various modeling opportunities and film roles, Suzanne Somers decided to head to the small screen for the ‘70s classic sitcom Three’s Company. Though her ditzy-blond character Chrissy became a fan favorite, Somers exited the show in 1980.
She later starred in the less-successful sitcom She’s the Sheriff. Somers’ career path soon became quite eccentric as she went on to star as a nightclub performer and brand ambassador for the workout product, the ThighMaster.
Suzanne Somers – Now
After realizing that she had a certain talent for marketing products and a natural charisma, Suzanne Somers became well known for promoting her own line of jewelry on the Home Shopping Network. She has also published several memoirs, and books centered on health and fitness.
Though she no longer acts, Somers is often in the public eye for her often-controversial opinions on health-related issues, and as an anti-aging guru. She now has her own line of skincare, makeup, supplements, and other products.
Sarah Jessica Parker – Then
Though Sarah Jessica Parker had been performing on stage since childhood, she rose to popularity on the ‘80s sitcom, Square Pegs. Parker played Patty Greene, a young girl trying to fit in with the popular crowd in her high school. Though the show only aired for one season, Parker’s career soon took off.
She later starred in Footloose, Honeymoon in Vegas, Ed Wood, and the First Wives Club. By the late ‘90s, she signed on for what would become her most well-known role, Carrie Bradshaw on Sex and the City.
Sarah Jessica Parker – Now
Known best for her role as Carrie Bradshaw in the critically acclaimed series, Sex and the City, Sarah Jessica Parker is one of Hollywood’s most accomplished actresses. In 2016, she returned to her television roots with the HBO series, Divorce.
In addition to acting, Parker has become known as a style icon and has launched several fashion and fragrance lines. Parker was most recently seen in the Sex and the City reboot, titled And Just Like That … which aired in late 2021.
Delta Burke – Then
Though Delta Burke starred in ‘80s sitcoms Filthy Rich and 1st and Ten, her break-out role was as Suzanne Sugarbaker on the series Designing Women. Burke’s role as the ex-beauty queen and interior designing firm partner won her accolades from fans and critics alike.
After starring in the role for five seasons, Burke went on to star in the sitcoms Delta and Women of the House. She later appeared in the film What Women Want and in the Broadway production of Steel Magnolias.
Delta Burke – Now
After Burke’s departure from Designing Women, the actress went on to star in several television series and films. In the 2000s, Burke had difficulty reaching the same level of fame and amount of roles she had been offered in the ‘80s and ‘90s.
